Conscience & War, the untold stories of Manchester Quakers who resisted WW1, was an exhibition marking the centenary of the introduction of conscription in 1916.
The free exhibition included an overview of the Quaker response to conscription. There were personal stories and biographies of Manchester Quakers who took the decision to object on grounds of conscience and an installation of textile artwork by Dr Sonja Andrew, "A textile narrative of John Edgar Bell, conscientious objector."
I was commissioned to design the exhibition content and the supporting materials. I used period styling, such as typefaces and muted colours to provide a subtle backdrop for the often poignant stories the exhibition told.
Exhibition panel design, exhibition branding, banners, leaflets, flyers and online graphics.
The exhibition ran 15 May to 12 June 2016 at Friends’ Meeting House, Manchester, with an exhibition closing event as part of Manchester Histories Festival.
