I was commissioned to undertake a rebrand of the Friends' Meeting Houses in the Manchester Area. These are meeting places for Quakers, but are also available to hire out as meeting and conference venues and it's this side of their function that was the focus of the new identity.

The brand had to represent five locations of varying sizes and promote their facilities that, in the case of the central Manchester location, are comparable to some of the more well known venues. However it was also important to come across as a friendly, less corporate option and highlight the strong values and not-for-profit side of the organisation.

"Virtually Me: Your manifesto for online life" is a book for young people aged 10 – 14 years designed to help them figure out their own personal policy about how to handle social media and digital devices.

The internet and use of screens is a huge challenge for kids and their parents these days, and the author wanted this book to address these issues without talking down or preaching to the reader.

It's an interactive workbook/ journal, with activities to make the user think their digital lives and leading to them creating their own 'manifesto' about how to cope with the web and use their devices.

The author wanted an anarchic style and I styled the graphics with a Soviet edge to echo the sentiment of the user taking the control and power back over their digital lives.

Through the Looking Glass is a new portrait photography studio catering for a range of clients including familes, couples, new borns, boudoir and beauty shoots.

The brief was the create a brand that looked fresh and modern against a reasonable amount of competition from studios in Manchester and the surrounding areas.

The majority of bookings would be coming from women, so a feminine look was requested while being careful not to stray into looking too 'girly' or twee.

Designed in association with Verge Media for The Proud Trust, a recently rebranded charity (formerly LGBT Youth North West).

The Proud Trust supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people in the UK, through a variety of services including youth groups, a network of youth workers, training and awareness.

A printed "Come Out & Say It" guide that folds up to postcard size, containing lots of advice for young people about issues surrounding sexuality and gender. And a pocket-sized booklet containing essential info about the charity and listings of its local youth groups and contacts.

Both designed using elements of the new fun and youth-focused brand and running with the irreverent, colourful style.

"This Book Stinks" is a children's journal I was commissioned to design and illustrate.

"This Book Stinks" is a book for kids aged 8-12 made especially for holiday backpacks. It is written from the perspective of mindfulness, with tasks that help them interact and take notice of the world around them. But what it ends up being is a fun activity book that children can use however they like and are encouraged to build up a scrapbook of their travels. The activities range from taking note of and collecting items from their surroundings, going on secret missions to trick their parents and games to let their imagination run wild.

The overall feel is fun and slightly anarchic with the illustrations in a doodle style- all hand drawn and each style of page has it's own layout and design to keep it exciting and kids wanting to interact with it while it's up against all the electronic devices available.

Conscience & War, the untold stories of Manchester Quakers who resisted WW1, was an exhibition marking the centenary of the
introduction of conscription in 1916.

The free exhibition included an overview of the Quaker response to conscription, the part of the Military Service Act that allowed people of object on grounds of conscience and the effects that had on those people and their families. There were personal stories and biographies of Manchester Quakers who took the decision to object and an installation of textile artwork by Dr Sonja Andrew, "A textile narrative of John Edgar Bell, conscientious objector."

I was commissioned to design the exhibition content and the supporting materials. I used period styling, such as typefaces and muted colours to provide a subtle backdrop for the often poignant stories the exhibition told.

The exhibition ran 15th May to 12th June 2016 at Friends’ Meeting House, Manchester, with an exhibition closing event as part of Manchester Histories Festival.

Levenshulme Good Neighbours are a voluntary care group that supports older people to maintain independent and fulfilling lives in the community. They do this by recruiting volunteers from the local community who befriend older people.

LGN approached me to design a flyer designed to attract new volunteers and raise awareness of the project in the community. The design needed to be eye-catching and welcoming, and with awareness of the clarity of the text and overall message as the target audience could be of any age.

Previous collateral had not sent all the right messages and so the design would set a benchmark of the new look and feel of the projects communications in the future, initially using an existing logo and then refining it to match the rest the new look.

I focused on bright colours and a hand drawn feel to create the feeling of friendliness and to invite the eye. This includes small illustrations to help give more of idea of what the volunteers may be doing without having to add more text to a small printed piece.

The new look for the organisation was implemented across other items, including a leaflet to give to potential service users where clarity and ease of reading was essential.

Design of a full set of print items for a wedding being held in the historic Museum of Science & Industry. A Victorian, slightly Steampunk theme matched the venue with seasonal Autumnal tones of blue and brown.

 "You Are Here" is a book designed to be used as a diary while traveling from the viewpoint of mindfulness, with exercises and advice to implement techniques in everyday life.

And "That Was Now" is a diary designed to be used everyday to record different aspects of your life including emotions and senses, and then reflecting upon the records regularly. It introduces ideas of mindfulness through easy everyday practice together with the therapeutic journalling and reflection. The project included icon design for recording certain memories and feelings.

This included a logo design for Sit. Breathe. Love., the brand under which the books are published. It also offers advice and resources from it's website and social media, focusing on mindfulness and meditation. The logo centres on is a simple line image of a seated figure incorporating a heart. The logo also contains an infinity sign and the circles which have symbolic meaning to the brand.

Website design refresh for a video production company looking to streamline it's offering and appeal to a more commercial market with a new simplified look and feel while retaining existing logo.

Complete design for start up millinery company based around a 'modern day Alice in Wonderland' sparking from witty company name. There was a strong brief for the whimsical, but not too twee feel that the brand needed as well as elements such as the colour scheme and ‘papercut’ style illustration that makes up the main logo.

A simple website was designed to act as a showcase for the brand and products, but without e-commerce, so links to the external retail sites (such as Etsy) were made prominent and always visible while browsing the site.

Graphics were designed and implemented across social media and online shops including Twitter, Facebook, Etsy and Folksy, to create a coherent image across all online presences.

A business card was designed that could double up as product swing tags along with simple stickers that could be cheap, but versatile branded packaging elements. These all meant I was able to deliver a complete craft retail brand start up package within a modest budget.
