"This Book Stinks" is a children's journal I was commissioned to design and illustrate in 2014, and then once again, to refine elements in 2024 when the journal gained a new publisher. It was a unique opportunity to revisit a project a decade later.
"This Book Stinks" is a book for kids aged 8-12 made especially for holiday backpacks. It is written from the perspective of mindfulness, with tasks that help them interact and take notice of the world around them. What it ends up being is a fun activity book that children can use however they like and are encouraged to build up a scrapbook of their travels. The activities range from collecting items from their surroundings, going on secret missions to trick their parents and games that let their imagination run wild.
The overall feel is fun and slightly anarchic with illustrations in a doodle style- all hand-drawn. Each activity has its own layout to keep it exciting and hopefully keep kids engaged offline and in touch with the world around them.
